I judge the level of mayhem by the helicopters.
Nearly every day for the past week they hover over the financial district, reporting on protests and the resulting traffic tie-ups.
I can tell now whether the protests are large and disruptive by the helicopters. When things are dicey, intersections blocked, they hover, mysteriously unmoving. When the roads are clear and the protests small, they cruise the sky over downtown, up one road and down the next. Like hawks scanning for prey.
