what I’ve been reading in school

What I’ve been reading in school:

Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand (great book!)
Anatomy of Restlessness by Bruce Chatwin (collection of essays that’s much more readable than his In Patagonia)
Imperial Eyes, by Mary Louise Pratt (interesting, radical, post-colonial, sometimes witty, sometimes a little obscure for the nonacademic reader or someone who hasn’t studied European history since 12th grade. Ahem.)
Various excerpts including:
Embassy Letters by Mary Wortley Montagu (interesting and readable)
Journey to Western Isles by Samuel Johnson (I know he wrote the first dictionary, but what a jerk!)
Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides, James Boswell
“Disturbance of Memory,” by Sigmund Freud
Travels in the Interior of Africa by Mungo Park (interesting and readable, though not always culturally sensitive)
Greek Travel Diary by Virginia Woolf (Awful, awful. She’s horrible to the Greeks.)
Persian Letters, Montesquieu
