Yesterday after work I stopped at a great independent bookstore that I haven’t been to in a long time. It’s near my office, and I used to visit there frequently when I was working there before. But it’s been a while.
In this case there was an urgent reason for the visit. My bookclub is meeting on Monday — ahem, in 5 days — and I hadn’t even gotten the book yet. It’s a longer one, too, so I guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend. If I’m lucky.
I’ve been reading short stories and only short stories since I returned from Europe at the end of May, so I am looking forward to reading a novel or two. Since I’ve now read two excellent short stories by Anthony Doerr (over the course of 4 years or so), I decided to go all out and immerse myself… I bought his first novel, “About Grace,” and the whole collection “The Shell Collector” — the title story is just so good.
